Collections and Conversations presents: Stampede: A Colonial History of Sports in the MRU Archives
Event box
Did you know that there is a vast collection of programs from the Calgary Stampede housed in the MRU Archives’ Blaine Canadian Sports History Collection? In this presentation, scholars Dr. Marty Clark and Dr. Andrea Phillipson will discuss their experiences bringing sports history students to the Archives, where they examine mid-century Stampede programs and connect these artifacts to the colonial history of sports. This presentation will convey how archives assignments have been integrated into coursework, and how sports and sporting events such as the Calgary Stampede have been used as tools of assimilation as well as Indigenous self-determination.
