Join this engaging talk and panel discussion that features researchers and experts in gaming, accessibility, libraries, technology, and events. Learn how to recognize and address barriers while planning on-campus events that have a balance of activities so all participants can have fun with dignity.

Angie Brunk

Co-author of Games and Gamification in Academic Libraries (Chapter 4: Level Up! Making Games Accessible)

  • Angie Brunk is an experienced public services librarian who recently completed an MAS in human factors and usability testing (MLS and MA in Journalism as well.) Angie was born with a visual impairment and has worked with many people with disabilities throughout her career. She is familiar with the research on accessible design; accessible design is also more accessible for able bodied people. Angie is currently working as a consultant for accessible and inclusive design.

Dr. Dale Monobe

Co-author of Games and Gamification in Academic Libraries (Chapter 4: Level Up! Making Games Accessible)

  • Dr. Dale Monobe has taught rehabilitation counseling (as well as practiced rehabilitation counseling) and library science on the graduate level and is currently the Utah/Nevada MLS Regional Director in the School of Library and Information Management at Emporia State University. He not only has an interest in underserved patrons at academic libraries, but also in accessible games and gamification, and in humanistic lifelong learning.

Erik Christiansen

  • Erik is the subject librarian for Psychology, Counselling, Health and Physical Education and the Conservatory at Mount Royal University. Erik has experience working in information technology, and previously he provided instructional design, education technology, and research support at the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Education. His research interests are centred around open education and integrating information literacy into academic curriculum. He is an active member of the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) community. Erik is a long-time computer, usability and gaming enthusiast and continues to blog about these topics on his website.

Deb Steel

  • Deb is an Assistive Technology Advisor at Mount Royal University, providing technology support for students to help overcome disability-related barriers to learning.
