HyFlex Instruction: The Leatherman Tool of Makerspace Learning
Active, Engaging and Adaptable with Rich McCue, University of Victoria

Join Rich McCue, the Manager, Libraries Digital Scholarship Commons at the University of Victoria to learn about what HyFlex (hybrid-flexible) Instruction is and the different forms it can take. McCue will explain how this instructional method has been employed at the University of Victoria in the academic makerspace and the value it has brought to student learning experiences. McCue will share the advantages and disadvantages  of HyFlex and the best practices for creating and leading HyFlex workshops. 

Bio:

Richard McCue (he/him) is the Manager, Libraries Digital Scholarship Commons, and Sessional Instructor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Victoria where they have set up and managed the new Digital Scholarship Commons (DSC) in the library. They have created and  taught extensive blended curriculum workshops on 3D printing, 3D design, Arduino electronics, data visualization, internet of things, interactive storytelling with Twine, and more.


Emerging Technologies Consortium (ETC) is a regular event hosted by The Mount Royal Library in Calgary, Alberta where Mount Royal students, employees, and the general community come together to discuss a common interest in new tech developments to inform teaching, learning, scholarship and student experience. The ETC holds events for those who explore and adopt emerging technologies to come together to generate ideas, foster connections and share knowledge and expertise. Topics of discussion will include virtual and augmented reality, 3D printing, e-sports, machine learning, robotics, wearables, and more.
