The difference between data archiving and open data isn’t always clear, making it challenging to understand the expectations of funders and publishers. The distinction is important, though, particularly when seeking ethics approval and consent from research participants. In this workshop, Lynne Lafave, HREB Chair, and Brian Jackson, Data Librarian, will distinguish between data archiving and open data, address data policies of funders and publishers, and review ethics requirements for both data archiving and data sharing.
