From Jamaica to Canada: Slavery, Memory, and Citizenship
In this third edition of the Series, we host Dr. Yvonne Shorter Brown.
Dr. Brown’s talk will draw from her experience, research, and teaching as they concern the subjects of memory, slavery, and citizenship from Jamaica to Canada. Dr. Brown will also engage the audience on her memoir, Dead Woman Pickney, which thematizes childhood, motherhood, family, community, nationhood, race, identity, love, absence, grief, joy, and education.
The Series celebrates and features African and Black Canadian writers whose works deal with multiculturalism, integration, diversity, inclusion, history, plurality, and racial justice.
