Have a tear in your favorite jeans? The cuffs of your hoodie wearing thin?

Join us in the Maker Studio, where our Maker experts and studio tools are available to help you learn to repair your damaged clothing using a needle and thread!

The goal of this workshop is to teach the MRU campus community how to reduce waste, develop repair skills, and strengthen sustainability practices on campus and in our communities.

What you'll need to bring:

  • A piece of clothing that requires mending

This workshop will:

  • Introduce mending as a practice to prevent waste and combat fast-fashion
  • Provide a basic background on fabric types and how to decide on a mending method
  • Teach how to apply a simple patch
  • Provide guidance to decorate a repair using sashiko stitching

At the end of this workshop you should be able to:

  • Thread a needle
  • Select the appropriate type of patch for knit and woven fabrics
  • Trim and place a patch to match your garment
  • Sew a patch in place and decorate it if you want a visible mend
  • Leave with a mended piece of your clothing
