Beyond Borders is a dynamic, curiosity driven cultural competency course designed to take participants on a journey across vibrant cultures from around the world. Each month, we’ll discover a new cultural landscape—exploring its traditions, values, stories, rituals, and ways of communicating that shape how people live, connect, and belong.
Brazil is a country of striking cultural depth, social complexity, and strategic importance. This session considers how its identity has been shaped by Indigenous, African, and European influences, producing a culture known not only for its warmth, music, food, and festivals, but also for strong regional diversity and social contrasts. Our presenter, Dr. Paul Varella, will examine Brazil's unique culture and as a major hub in Latin America, explore main areas of its economic strength (agribusiness, mining, energy, manufacturing, and innovation), and highlight its world-famous tourism and ecological destinations—from Rio de Janeiro to the Amazon.
