The session will explore the distinction between hate crimes and hate incidents, key indicators of hate motivation, and the Calgary Police Service’s approach to responding to hate crimes through community engagement and trauma-informed practices. The session will also provide opportunities to explore how these concepts may show up in a campus context, with perspectives from MRU Security Services. It will conclude with a discussion on the importance of reporting hate-motivated behaviour and some of the common barriers that may prevent individuals from coming forward.
