The Series privileges and celebrates African and Black Canadian writers and thinkers whose works promote inclusion, belonging, and justice. For this year’s fourth edition of the Series our guest is Valerie Jerome, a Vancouver-based teacher, athlete, activist, politician, author, and the granddaughter of Canada’s first Black Olympian, John “Army” Howard. Valerie represented Canada at the 1960 Rome Olympics, the Commonwealth Games, and the Pan American Games.
The focus of Valerie’s talk aligns with her efforts to inform others about inclusion, racism, injustice ending with a questioning message of how to move forward with kindness and grace.
