If you build it, will they come? Enabling student access to emerging technologie

Educational institutions are increasingly adding emerging technologies to their roster of resources to support learning. This panel of experts will share approaches and strategies to facilitate student advancement with the use of emerging technologies. Participants are encouraged to share their knowledge and experience in this area to inform best practices in facilitating student access to technology.

Our panel of experts include: 

Luciano Santos (PhD) is an assistant professor and faculty development consultant in the Academic Development Centre, Mount Royal University. His research and practice focuses on processes for development of post-secondary teaching capacity, including in the use of educational technologies.

Famira Racy (MA) is a Co-Researcher and Coordinator for the Inner Speech Research Lab at MRU, investigating questions from self-dynamics in students to self-awareness in robots. She is also an independent scholar, coach, consultant and mentor, with a focus on personal and professional development and wellness.

Nora MacLachlan (MHS, RN) is the Dean of Health & Community Studies at Bow Valley College. She has over 20 years of experience as a nurse in various fields of health care and 10 years of teaching in the post-secondary environment.  Nora believes in excellence in academia through quality, and this is what she and the high performing teams she guides at Bow Valley College all strive towards.  As a leader of the School of Health & Wellness and the School of Community Studies, Nora promotes technology with a balance of humanness and works to facilitate collaboration across the College along with her valued community and global partners.

Emerging Technologies Consortium (ETC) is a monthly online talk where Mount Royal students, employees, and the general community come together to discuss a common interest in new tech developments. The ETC is a virtual space where those who explore and adopt emerging technologies come together to share their work in teaching, research and co-curricular activities. Topics of discussion will include virtual and augmented reality, 3D printing. E-sports, machine learning, robotics, wearables, and more.
